Meet Coney

Meet Coney: one of the most loved dogs in the AADI family.
She was born on 18th July 2023, part of our Island litter, alongside her brothers and sisters Lucia, Skye, Capri, Inis, Rico, Aran, Bofin, Bali, and Flint. Their mum, Fidji, is one of our wonderful brood dogs who passed on her calm nature and gentle heart to each of her puppies.
Coney grew up surrounded by care and adventure, showing a bright, loving personality from the very start.
While she didn’t go on to become a qualified autism assistance dog herself, she showed many of the traits we look for in our future mums – calm, confidence, and kindness – which made her a perfect candidate for our brood programme.
She now lives with Elaine Cannon, AADI’s Breeding Manager, who has been Coney’s guardian since March 2025. In fact, Coney was originally born in Elaine’s home back in July 2023 and spent her first few weeks surrounded by Elaine’s family, so this new chapter feels like she’s come full circle.
Together, they’ve shared countless adventures, from days at the beach and exploring the woods to spending time in the office and ending her day with a chew and cuddling on the couch.

Coney is a gentle, affectionate dog who loves her red dragon, and never says no to a pupsicle. Her playful side always shines through, especially when she’s with her dog cousins Kylo and Blake.
When the time came to choose a mate for Coney, she was carefully matched with Triton, another exceptional dog from AADI’s breeding programme. Their pairing was planned using our evidence-based selection process – looking at genetics, health, and temperament to give their puppies the best possible start in life.
Now, as Coney prepares to welcome her first litter, she’s surrounded by love, care, and excitement. These puppies will one day grow into autism assistance dogs, bringing safety, calm, and freedom to families across Ireland.

Every great story begins with connection, and for Coney and Triton, that connection was written in their genes.
Their pairing was carefully planned through AADI’s science-backed breeding programme. Triton, one of our most exceptional dogs, was chosen for his calm nature, outstanding temperament, and impressive genetics, he’s also the first male AADI dog selected for the Assistance Dogs International Breeding Collaborative, a global programme helping to improve guide and assistance dog breeding standards across Europe.
Coney, known for her gentleness, confidence, and nurturing personality, was the perfect match.
Instead of a traditional mating, Coney was safely and comfortably inseminated, a method that allows us to use the best genetic matches while ensuring her wellbeing throughout. This process is guided by our veterinary team and follows international best practice, making it both stress-free and safe for our brood mums.
Together, they’ve created something extraordinary, and soon, Coney is expected to welcome a litter of puppies with the best possible chance of growing into calm, confident, and life-changing autism assistance dogs.
