“On 6th December 2022, we received the most incredible early Christmas gift: we were matched with Alfie, an autism assistance dog from AADI. Our son Noah, who is 11 and has autism and an intellectual disability, had always been a major flight risk. Family outings were rare, and when we did venture out, they were often cut short because we couldnāt guarantee Noahās safety. The anxiety, hypervigilance, and stress were overwhelming for all of us, and we knew we desperately needed help.
That help arrived in the form of Alfie. After training with AADIās amazing team in Cork, we brought Alfie home in January 2023, and our lives changed completely. From the moment he arrived, Alfie fit right in. He formed an incredible bond with Noah, his siblings, and our whole family.
Thanks to Alfie, we can now do things we never imagined possible. From shopping trips and swimming pool visits to hospital appointments and even family holidays, Alfieās presence has brought calm, safety, and joy. Heās given Noah a sense of independence too, Noah can hold onto Alfieās handle instead of tightly clutching our hands.
Alfie is like a superstar in his working jacket. Everywhere we go, people stop to ask about the amazing work he does. And when the school bus arrives in the morning, Alfie waits patiently with Noah, just as heās there to greet him when the bus brings Noah home again. Theyāre best friends, and that bond is something we could never have imagined before.”
