Bluebird Care Sponsors the Training of Future Autism Assistance Dog ‘Blue’

Meet Blue, an eight-month-old Labrador Retriever who has just started his journey towards becoming a fully-qualified autism assistance dog.

The sponsorship covers the full cost of Blue’s two-year training process and reflects a shared mission between AADI and Bluebird Care – to support families and individuals with additional needs by empowering them to live safer, more independent lives.

“Our partnership with Bluebird Care is grounded in shared values. Both organisations are deeply committed to supporting families in local communities and creating long term, meaningful impact,” said Vasya Ponomarev, AADI’s Corporate Partnerships Manager

Autism assistance dogs like Blue provide essential support for children with autism by helping them to stay safe in busy or unpredictable environments, reduce anxiety, and help regulate emotions. For many families, these dogs are life-changing.

“Supporting AADI allows us to extend our commitment to specialist care for people with autism beyond the home,” added Jonathan Gardner, Managing Director of Bluebird Care Ireland. “Through this sponsorship, we’re not just helping to train a dog – we’re helping to create safety, confidence, and real quality of life for families across Ireland.”

To celebrate this partnership, AADI and Bluebird Care are launching an educational roadshow this June, visiting Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Waterford. The roadshow aims to raise awareness about the critical role autism assistance dogs play and encourage more local businesses to get involved.

As a charity that receives no direct government funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of the public and partners like Bluebird Care. With your support, we can train more puppies like Blue and bring hope to more families across the country.
